A lively flock

A fun day yesterday at North Newton Primary School, making crane masks with artist Melanie Tomlinson.  The masks are just one of the brilliant resources for schools designed by Melanie as part of her Company of Cranes work commissioned by Somerset Art Works, which are now being made available to primary schools and children on the website http://www.thecompanyofcranes.net/  thanks to funding from InspirED.  The Great Crane Project's excellent team of volunteers already visit schools in and around the Somerset Levels, but there's a limit to how many we can cover and this website will allow us to reach many more and much further away.  As well as the masks, the website has other wonderful things to make, including a Somerset Levels fish mobile, origami cranes and even a zoetrope with moving pictures!  And you can upload an image of your finished work onto an interactive map.  Richard Tomlinson, responsible for the technical side of the website, was also helping Melanie (no relation!) at North Newton school yesterday, and he took the photo of us all wearing our masks.
